Plans for short term enhancements to odgps

I plan to add few enhancements to odgps on an irregular basis. Please feel free to comment on features or fixes you as a user want to have made.

Here is the list:
  1. Allow to configure a time zone. Today the GPS time is displayes as it comes in from the GPS receiver - wich is UTC. Many people asked for a local time display. I am not sure if the timestamps in the tracks should be localized as well. Any suggestions?
  2. Keep odgps from crashing when the track fills up internal memory of the PDA. (This is more a bug fix than an enhacement I guess :-)
  3. Correct the namespace definition in the GPX file for odgps tracks
  4. Add support for imperial units
  5. Make the cockpit view configurable. Choose which data to display and at what size.
  6. Support UTM coordinates

How to load an odgps track into Google Earth?

I have been asked many times how to view a track that was recorded with odgps in Google Earth.

Simply drag the track file onto the Google Earth map. That's it.

Here is how to do it in detail:
  1. record a track using odgps. Please read the docs on www.outdoor-gps.de for details on how to record a track.
  2. connect the PDA to your PC
  3. start up Google Earth on you PC
  4. Maybe download the track to your PC or
  5. use your file explorer to locate the track on your PDA - provided that you configured your pda to be seen like an external disk
  6. drag the file from explorer directly onto the map of Google Maps.
  7. The map will start to swivel to the location of your track and show it
  8. Using Google Earth you can also find out details about your track like its length and duration of the trip.
odgps stores its tracks usually in MyDocuments\odgps\tracks. You can change this location easily under System/properties/Tracker in odgps.

odgps 1.2 build 264 NEW

I just published the a new odgps build. It has been over three years since the last publish. I started a new job in 2006 and didn't get to work on odpgs. Also I there were no critical bugs.

Aggregating the downloads on a few freeware sites that I know of suggests that odgps has been downloaded several hundred thousand times since December 2005.

I received a lot of suggestions per email. This new build is the first containing the first of the wishes that seemed to bother users most.
